BBC and Queens Park Rangers director Les
Ferdinand have confirmed that Manchester
United youngster Sean Goss is close to a move
to Loftus Road.
Reports have claimed the two clubs have
agreed a fee for the 21-year-old, which could
rise as high as £500,000 for the highly
promising midfielder.
Goss now just needs to complete a medical and
agree personal terms with the Championship
side and Ferdinand says he should provide to
be a superb signing.
“Sean’s very highly rated and the mere fact he
is even looking at coming to us is a real
positive,” Ferdinand was quoted as saying.
“He’s an excellent young midfielder and exactly
the type of player we’ve been looking at. That
deal is close to being completed.
“We now need to raise funds to go out and
purchase players, so if we can bring a few in
who we think will have premium sell-on value,
like Sean, then we’re very much moving in the
right direction.”
It appears it is no longer just rumours, Goss
looks destined to leave Old Trafford now and
become the third United player to leave in
January following the departures of Morgan
Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay.
His exit will prove a huge disappointment for
some fans who have seen him impress for the
reserves and had hoped he could make the
transition to the first team.
Goss’ playing style has brought comparisons to
Michael Carrick and with the 35-year-old
moving towards the end of his career, there
did appear an opportunity for the youngster to
make the breakthrough.
He was called up to first team training in
December but it appears he has not done
enough to impress Mourinho who is clearly
willing to allow him to leave.
While details of the deal are yet to be
announced, it is to be hoped United have
included a buy-back clause, or at least a sell-
on clause, in case Goss proves the club wrong
by shining at Loftus Road.
