American President, Donald Trump and newsly elected President of Germany, Frank Steinmeier Independent reports that Mr Steinmeier, Germany’s former foreign minister, strongly criticised Donald Trump during the US election campaign. READ ALSO: Trouble looms for Donald Trump, as more than 650,000 people have joined a campaign to Impeach the US President When asked in August about the rise of right-wing populism in Germany and elsewhere, Mr Steinmeier criticised those who “make politics with fear”. He cited the nationalist Alternative for Germany party, the promoters of Britain’s exit from the European Union, and “the hate preachers, like Donald Trump at the moment in the United States”. The daily Berliner Morgenpost billed Mr Steinmeier as “the anti-Trump president”. He was elected with 931 of 1,260 votes. The German president has little executive power but is considered an important moral authority. Mr Steinmeier, a Social Democrat, had the support of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s “grand coalition” of centre- right and centre-left parties. He has long been one of Germany’s most popular politicians. Under Ms Merkel, he served twice as foreign minister – from 2005 to 2009 and again from 2013 until this year, with a stint as opposition leader in between. He has also won respect for his persistence in trying to resolve the long-running crisis in Ukraine. He will succeed Joachim Gauck, a 77- year-old former pastor and East German pro-democracy activist. He did not seek a second five-year term because of his age. His election is likely to be one of the last moments of coalition unity ahead of a parliamentary election in September in which Ms Merkel is seeking a fourth term. Both sides hope to end the “grand coalition”

FORMER GOVERNOR CHIEF IBORI EXPLAINS HIS EXPERIENCE AT A LONDON PRISON

After seven years of serving jail term in London prison, Ibori has spoken on his prison experience - He says what pained him most was not actually his prison service but his people whom he left behind - He, however, said he was not guilty of the offences leveled against him but he accepted it as a way to escape the plot of his enemies Former governor of Delta state, Chief James Ibori on Sunday, February 12, 2017 said he never once doubted his prospect of returning to Nigeria and reuniting with his friends, political associates and kinsmen in Oghara, Ethiope west local government area of the state. Ibori also dismissed insinuations that he was guilty of the offences to which he admitted in 2012, disclosing that at the point of his trial, his guilty plea was the only leeway with which he could escape the malevolent plot of his enemies under the guise of anti- corruption crusade. James Onanefe Ibori The former governor spoke in Oghara during a thanksgiving service organized by the leadership of Oghara community and held at the First Baptist Church, Ogharefe. The event was widely attended by thousands of supporters, including Ibori's elder cousin and successor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan; Ibori's deputy, Chief Benjamin Elue, former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Chief Steve Oru, Managing Director of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief Williams Makinde, traditional rulers, serving and former commissioners, political stalwarts, captains of industries and artisans across the state. READ ALSO: See faces at James Ibori's thanksgiving service in Oghara Delta state Ibori who spoke in English and Urhobo languages revealed that the reality of his seven years absence from the country was not as painful as the suffering and pains which his people were subjected to within the period of his absence. His words: "My entire life is a testimony; I have said it over and again that my life was fashioned by God, directed by God, seen, acknowledged and blessed by God. I have always believed that since I was born, I’m living in accordance with destiny. "When the whole commotion started, what was most painful to me was the pains and sufferings that my people were going through. It had nothing to do with me as a person because for some reasons, I drew my strength from God and, somehow, I knew God will stand by me. "I knew that one day, this day of celebration will come. I am indeed very pleased that I can now stand before you and look at your faces, especially the faces of those I have missed and those who suffered the pains of my absence. "When I reflect on the past, it gives me joy that all your prayers have been answered by God; all your support and solidarity with me all through this period are untellable. Ibori while in London prison "The only testimony I have is the fact that I am alive, well and in your midst. I never had any doubt whatsoever in mind that I will get back home. ” On his guilty plea about seven years ago, Ibori maintained that his analysis of the situation showed that his life was at stake and the enemies were bent on taking him from his people, hence he accepted his alleged offences as a "pragmatic decision" to thwart the plans of his foes. He narrated how he had pre- informed Uduaghan of his intention of going for the guilty plea which, he said, was "the shortest route back to his people ", insisting that he was not guilty as alleged. Ibori, who was in a very high spirit, led the congregation in songs of victory just as special prayers were offered for him and his family members, Oghara community, Ethiope west, Delta state and Nigeria. Earlier in a homily titled: "Knowing the Gift of God", the South-South Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Goddowell Awomakpa, said Ibori served as a bridge that united the church with the government of the state, urging politicians to be more concerned with the welfare of the masses than their personal gratification. Awomakpa also enjoined political leaders to shun hatred for one another, charging them to embrace humility and respect for the electorate during and after their tenure in offices. Meanwhile, prominent kinsmen of Ibori have continued to eulogize the former governor, describing him as people oriented and generally acceptable to Nigerians. In an interaction with newsmen, Ighomena attributed the jubilations that greeted Ibori's return to his continuous struggle for the emancipation of the Niger Delta region, noting that Ibori never fought a personal cause but advanced the true yearnings of Nigerians. On his part, a former Commissioner representing Ethiope west, Sapele and Okpe local government areas on the board of DESOPADEC, Chief Henry Ofa, urged everyone "to accord Chief Ibori the greatest respect that he deserves and tell others to do same", adding: "We must heed his fatherly advice and show him all the needed love.” "As we all rise in unity to reaffirm our undying loyalty to this great leader, we must understand that each of us has a stake in the issue at hand; we have a role to play and we have an all important task to perform. Ibori during the celebration service in church on Sunday "Now, more than ever, has the rolling ball been placed on our courts; it is either we score the goal and continue in our unabating joy or stand the risk of missing the reward forever. A fact worth knowing is that history beckons on you .” On her part, a lecturer at the Delta State University, Abraka, Dr. (Mrs) Elizabeth Ogini observed that the time for a genuine reconciliation between Ibori and all aggrieved interests has come, noting that there is no gain in bickering. Osinbajo, Obasanjo to attend 2017 Murtala Muhammed Foundation lecture Osinbajo is the special guest of honour while Obasanjo, who is the chairman of the board of trustees of the Murtala Muhammed Foundation (MMF), is expected to chair the event. The keynote address of the event will be delivered by Governor Kashim Shettima, governor of Borno state, with the theme “Managing the Boko Haram Crisis in Borno state; Experiences and lessons for a multi-party, multi-ethnic and multi-religious Nigeria". In a statement sent to NAIJ.com by the chief executive officer of the MMF, Mrs Aisha Oyebode, she noted that the lecture “celebrates and sustains the good governance initiatives of our fallen hero whose inclination for humanitarian ideals we continue to uphold.” According to Oyebode, this year’s lecture will focus on humanitarian crisis and response in a pluralistic society and the role of leadership in the face of a multi-ethnic population. “Nigeria is contending with tensions arising from the activities of micro- nationalistic agitators, threatening to compound existing security challenges occasioned by the Boko Haram insurgency that has caused fatalities in excesses of 14,000 people and displaced over 1 million people. More worrisome are the implications these issues have on an already fragile security environment in the region, characterized by unmitigated small arms proliferation, weak state and security institutions in the component countries and a large number of out of school children and unemployed youth with dire economic prospects who are vulnerable targets for radicalization,” she said. The MMF is an organization founded on the ideals of Nigeria’s former military president, Late General Murtala Muhammed. The foundation has overtime led efforts to develop innovative approaches to dealing with the challenges facing the country. He said that Mr Abdul, who is currently with the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), recently recovered N42 billion for the Federal Government. Ani said that Messrs. Akinbayo and Idowu had rejected a bribe of $21 million and another $12,900 from one Samuel Wilberforce. “The officers in spite of this huge inducement defied the temptation and arrested the pipeline vandals,” he said. He said their actions portrayed the Nigeria Police Force in good light as they exhibited professionalism, fearlessness and incorruptibility in the conduct of their assignment. He said that the chairman of the commission, Mike Okiro, was poised to enthrone honesty, responsibility and fear of God in the Nigeria Police Force. Mr Okiro noted that the special promotions were meant to spark off a new wave of integrity in the conduct of police officers. “The promotion is another way of motivating the honest and disciplined officers and a wake-up call to the few disgruntled elements still in service,” he said. He warned that officers who failed to embrace the new disposition of the commission, would be shown the way out of the force. Ani said that the special promotions take immediate effect.

Meanwhile, a human rights group, the CPPM, criticises Senator Buruji Kashamu for allegedly threatening the public peace over his indictment for drug-related offences by the US appeal court and the order for his extradition to face trial. CPPM describes the senator’s action as an attempt to intimidate the law enforcement agencies from discharging their constitutional duties. The group calls on the leadership of the Senate to immediately summon Senator Buruji Kashamu to appear before the appropriate committee for acts unbecoming of a senator.

GOVERNOR OKOWA ASKS IBORI TO FORGET RETURN TO POLITICS

Governor Okowa asks Ibori to forget return to politics - Chief James Ibori, former governor of Delta state, returned to Nigeria after spending years in a UK prison - Apart from being celebrated by his people in Oghara, there are beliefs that the former governor would soon defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has said Chief James Ibori should be more concerned with his family now that he has returned from prison rather than politics. Governor Okowa says Ibori should concentrate on his family instead of politics Okowa stated this in reaction to claims that the former governor of Delta state on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and acclaimed political godfather was planning to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ibori returned from the UK recently after serving a concurrent 13-year jail term for money laundering and was reportedly visited by some top politicians in the state including Okowa. Meanwhile, the Centre for Anti- Corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL) has described the ‘euphoria’ that greeted Ibori’s return to Delta state as a show of shame that debases humanism. “It is sad and disheartening to see human beings so audaciously being ripped of their humanism; the very basis of their existence, out of the ‘inadvertent’ need to cope with the socio-economic and political reality of the society imposed by the incurably corrupt ruling class elements like Ibori. “It is like the hunted protecting the hunter; victims celebrating their victimizers out of total dislocation with the empirical reality of their social existence and proper introspection. “We are talking about an ex-convict that has through his nefarious and corrupt activities dragged the image of the country as a whole in the mud of global shame. Debo Adeniran of CACOL condemns the rousing welcome accorded Ibori in Oghara “Ibori, we believe, is one those who inspired the infamous statement of the former Prime Minister of the UK, David Cameron that described Nigeria as a country that is ‘fantastically’ corrupt. “CACOL think those that are openly celebrating the ex-convict are trying to turn Ibori to a ‘hero’, so he could go back to playing his so-called ‘Robinhood’ role while walking free and shoulders-high in spite of committing corruption crimes of incredible proportions. “‘Beneficiaries’ as the celebrators may be; they do not represent the rule of law, the will or opinion of Nigerians about the obligation and absolute necessity to prosecute Ibori and others like him for their corruption crimes with deserving punitive applied where culpability is established. READ ALSO: "Dear Ibori, we can’t thank God enough for bringing you back alive" “We also point out that the ‘welcome carnival’ is a manifestation of a tendency that can never spell any good for socio-cultural, economic and political development because the trend is predicated on corruption and abysmal disregard for core values and morals,” CACOL said in a statement made available to NAIJ.com.

MUST READ: YAR' ADUA IS SICK, IMPEACH HIM NOW- BUHARI SAYS IN 2010

On March 9, 2010, something happened which given the state of Nigeria right now, can best be described as the mother of all ironies. Late Yar'adua and Goodluck Jonathan The Nigerian president in that year was Umar Musa Yar'Adua and he had been sick and away from the country for a while. The then vice president, Goodluck Jonathan, was made the acting president and the entire country was confused about the exact state of Yar'Adua's health. Then an opposition leader, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), joined the growing number of Nigerians to call for the removal of President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua. God Loves You Discover God's Love and Forgiveness God Wants You to Know Him Ad READ ALSO: Buhari is not in the hospital - Presidency According to the This Day article dated March 9, 2010, President Buhari maintained that the only viable option out of the present political logjam in the country was for the Executive Council of the Federation (EXCOF) to declare the president incapacitated and have him impeached . Buhari, in 2010, said Nigeria should not have been in the situation it was in the first instance because the constitution had made it clear on how an ailing president could be succeeded. Insisting on Yar'Adua's impeachment, he said the refusal of the council to follow constitutional provisions with regards to the illness of the then president had thrown Nigeria into crisis and he argued that the 1999 Constitution was clear on the issue of succession when an incumbent president is incapacitated. Buhari, who is the president now, said all this when he received members of the National Unity Forum in Kaduna who paid him a solidarity visit. Goodluck Jonathan was not spared, as the former military ruler criticized what he described as "extra- constitutional measures", the measures applied by the National Assembly to empower Goodluck Jonathan as the acting president when the constitution already had a solution to the problem. READ ALSO: 6 things Osinbajo has done as acting president Below were his words from March 2010: "Political expediency won't remedy this kind of problem because if the Executive Council of the Federation had acted in accordance with the constitution, by invoking the necessary sections to declare the President incapacitated, we would not have found ourselves in this present situation. "As you can see, adopting extra- constitutional measures have not addressed the problem. If it had, we would not have been subjected to the raging debates and controversy going on. So, we must go back to the constitution. "The Executive Council of the Federation must do the right thing because once we start moving away from the constitution, then we are inviting anarchy.” Looking back at 2010, from 2017, it is indeed ironical that President Buhari is now receiving treatment in another country, and he has placed his vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, as the acting president?!

BELLO MASARI: HOW WE FRUSTRATED OBSANJO'S THIRD TERM AGENDA

Katsina State Governor, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, has revealed how he teamed up with former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, to truncate third term agenda of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2007. Masari, who was Speaker of the House of Representatives between 2003 and 2007, said when it became evident that Obasanjo was not ready to leave office, he had to join others to defend the overall interest of the country, rather than promoting a selfish agenda. Speaking with The Sun, the former Speaker said, “we started a journey from 2003 to 2007. Immediately after 2007 election, Ken Nnamani and myself, and some few others started meeting. PDP was so pervasive in the polity that it failed to reform. I know the role we played – not only about stopping the third term, but also to sustain the 2007 election, as bad as it was. “I think Senator Ken Nnamani and myself deserve some recognition, as we not only killed the third term, but also saved the 2007 election. An international election monitoring team led by a senior official from a super power nation invited us to a meeting, with Ken Nnamani, some senators, and myself and told us there was no election in 2007. “Indeed, the 2007 elections were flawed, and really there was no election. And I said, ‘yes there was no election.’ And they said, ‘why shouldn’t you move against the present government.’ They said we should use our chamber to make a declaration that there was no election. I said we would not do that because the constitution has not given us power to do that. “I told them that we had stopped third term and if we took that road, the President could simply declare a state of emergency. On the 29th of May 2007 our mandate, as legislature, would expire; the President would be the only one the constitution has given the right to remain in office to conduct a fresh election. I said we had exercised our own power to kill the third term, but if Nigerians could organise themselves, the whole nation can call on the National Assembly and give us extra constitutional powers, which I knew was impossible to do. “So, we really rejected that idea; even a motion was suggested that we should call for another election; but we said we would not do that, because we knew the consequences of condemning the election; it would throw the country into chaos. Those in government were not people who were friendly to us. But we made the sacrifice because of the nation. We knew that only God would protect us from them. We took that decision so that we didn’t throw the country into confusion. In fact, we even refused to table the matter at the House to debate it, whether there was an election or no election.” On the election, he said: “Clearly, there was no election. In 2007, there was no election. People were only brought into office by the former president. This is because elections were conducted on ballot papers that were not numbered. Yes, they were just papers, which I can print here.” COMMENT PLEASE

BUHARI'S GOVERNMENT WILL CRASH,IT GODLESS

A human rights group, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice, CHRSJ, has declared that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress government is godless and as a result, is now about to crash. The Executive Chairman of CHRSJ, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman, made the claim, calling on the president to “stop playing and challenging God.” Thousands of Nigerians took to the streets in parts of the country earlier in the week against the government’s harsh economic policies. According to Sulaiman, Buhari’s government was bound to fail in all areas just as it lacks the will to lead the people out of hardship. The group made the declaration as part of the protest march that happened in some cities of the country. It also noted that Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade was selective, against the principle of equity, accountability, transparency and justice, adding that the president had been protecting “fantastically corrupt set of people, like the Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF), Mr David Babachir Lawal, the Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Magu, among others, in his government.” The statement said the reason for protesting in the country was because Nigerians have been pushed to the wall. Sulaiman advised Nigerians to unite against putting the Buhari administration on its toes for the interest of the voiceless masses. He added, “Our duty is to liberate Nigeria from shackle of poverty, suffering, disease, squalor and undemocratic tendencies of Buhari’s government. “It is high time we all rose up to the challenges posed by this endless suffering under Muhamamdu Buhari, so that the labour of our heroes past shall not being in vain. “Our ‘siddon-look’ posture will destroy the country. Nigeria shall one day be free and that all evil men will perish because they are enemies of the masses due to their unconstitutional attitude to the fourth schedule of section (7) with section 14, 15,16,17,18 and 33 to 41 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. “It would amount to serious disservice to the nation and the entire people of Nigeria if General Muhammdu Buhari (rtd) as a former military dictator, cannot vacate our democratic space for genuine democrat.” COMMENT PLEASE

16 YEAR OLD CONFESSES TO BEING PART OF SATANIC CULT THAT DRINKS HUMAN BLOOD

16-year-old Bulawayo girl from Zimbabwe has confessed to being part of a satanic cult that allegedly drinks human blood and feeds on human flesh. The girl left residents’ representatives and Councillor Collet Ndhlovu under whom Cowdray Park falls, dumb-founded as she gave out a list of 38 people including their addresses, which her cult had allegedly killed in the suburb. She went on to mention about 60 people that she said she worked with. Included in the list were leaders of a big church in Cowdray Park. The girl also gave the address of a house she claimed had an underground room where corpses were kept for the Satanists to feed on. Mr Stanley Kwashira, the organising secretary of the residents association in Cowdray Park, yesterday said he was still grappling with the “shock of the horror tale.” “She came to my house with her mother and two members of the residents association in her area last week. She said she was recruited to the group by a 32-year-old man (name withheld), who was her boyfriend. I was ready to dismiss the tale as fabrication of an over- active teenage imagination when she started naming people who we knew had died in the suburb, accurately giving dates of death and addresses,” said a stunned Mr Kwashira. He said the girl said she joined the group last year when she was 15 years old. “She said she was in love with a man in the area and one day in June last year, she collapsed as she was going to the shops. She said two men, including the boyfriend, then took her to a house near the bus stop popularly known as the sign post. She said there is an underground room where she went through an initiation process, which included drinking human blood and eating the flesh of dead people,” said Mr Kwashira. He said the girl revealed that there were about 60 Satanists in the suburb who used to meet at the house. “She gave names that I am still finding hard to believe. She named some leaders from the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cowdray Park. The girl said the Satanists could become invisible and drain blood from a living person in broad daylight. She said the victims would start feeling weak and go to sleep while the unlucky ones would die,” he said. Mr Kwashira said the girl told them that she had an invisible basket that she used to fly to rural areas with the cult to “drink from healthy” rural people. “She said at the last rural raid which lasted about three weeks, last month, her colleagues kicked her out of the group saying it was no longer possible for them to work with her. They said someone from her family was making strong prayers on her behalf, which were creating havoc in their working environment,” he said. Mr Kwashira said residents leaders needed to engage the police and raid the houses where the girl said Satanists lived. “She said human blood is the best tasting drink she has ever had. These people were abusing this child. We should get the police and a certified prophet or inyanga and raid those homes. We cannot have killers living among us,” he said. Mr Kwashira said the girl’s mother sobbed uncontrollably throughout the narrative. When Chronicle visited the suburb yesterday, the girl said her mother had instructed her not to speak to anyone on the matter. When this reporter called her mother, she said she was in Harare and would only grant a face to face interview last night or this morning. Contacted for comment, Clr Ndhlovu confirmed the incident. “Yes, the matter has been reported to me. It is still not known to a majority of residents. We should handle it tactfully because it has the potential to create a bloodbath in the suburb,” said Clr Ndhlovu. He said it was frightening to hear that there were people who were eating other people in the suburb. “The matter was reported to the police last week. Today, I am going to the police to work out a way of solving the issue without raising tempers. I also think the people who were mentioned should be investigated and their houses searched,” said Clr Ndhlovu. Police spokesperson for Bulawayo Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo could neither confirm nor deny the incident. “We will give you the information as soon as we get it,” said Insp Moyo. ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ARSENAL VS CHELSEA MATCH(LINEUPS,SUSPENSION,INJURIES E.T.C)

Everything you need to know ahead of the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Sunday Questions were asked about Antonio Conte when Arsenal scored three past a disastrous Blues defence back in September, but four months on it appears that those questions are now being asked of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger who faces the biggest game of the season so far on Saturday lunchtime. Wenger takes his team to Stamford Bridge, a place where he has lost his last four league games, following the midweek defeat to Premier League strugglers Watford who came away with a surprise victory in north London. 'Wenger may leave Arsenal in the summer' The game against Watford was one which many expected Arsenal to win comfortably and it means the importance of Saturday’s match has now turned up a notch, with the Gunners' title chances likely to be ended if they drop points at the Bridge. Arsenal do face a midfield injury crisis of sorts with Aaron Ramsey ruled out of the game, Mohamed Elneny away at the Africa Cup of Nations and Granit Xhaka still serving a suspension. ARSENAL INJURIES Hector Bellerin will almost certainly start at right-back after sitting out the defeat to Watford and his pace down the right hand side could prove vital in setting up and preventing attacks. Ramsey is not expected to be involved after injuring his hamstring in midweek while Elneny is away on international duty with Egypt. Danny Welbeck is another player who is expected to be handed a chance in attack for the Gunners after being rested for the Watford game, and his tremendous goalscoring performance at Southampton provided a glimpse of what he can provide for the team when he’s fully fit. Matic: Chelsea want Arsenal revenge Olivier Giroud and Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain are both likely to be in the squad despite suffering knocks in the midweek loss, while Mathieu Debuchy’s return to full training gives Wenger the option of a more natural substitute right-back compared to Gabriel. Santi Cazorla is the only long-term absentee on the sidelines, with an expected return date pencilled in at six to eight weeks. ARSENAL SUSPENSIONS Granit Xhaka is serving the third of his four-game suspension. PLAY Similarly, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will watch his third consecutive match from the stands after being charged by the FA following his misconduct towards the end of the Gunners' victory over Burnley. ARSENAL POTENTIAL STARTING LINE-UP Midfield is the big worry for Arsenal and with Ramsey, Elneny, Cazorla and Xhaka all out it’s likely that Oxlade- Chamberlain will partner Francis Coquelin in the middle. Bellerin’s inevitable return at right- back paves the way for a potential right wing partnership with Theo Walcott, while Welbeck could start alongside Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in attack. German starlet pictured at Arsenal Defensively, a few supporters have encouraged the reintroduction of Kieran Gibbs to the starting XI and his pace may prove handy in keeping out Chelsea’s willing runners ahead of the slower Nacho Monreal. CHELSEA DOSSIER Chelsea’s nine-point lead over Tottenham and Arsenal has given them a comfortable cushion going into this one. + More Videos PLAY They were previously unbeaten in nine Premier League games against Arsenal (W6 D3) before the 3-0 defeat to the Gunners in September and will be feeling confident on home ground. Premier League table Since Antonio Conte changed his formation after that game, results have looked completely different and Chelsea have been producing better results on the pitch, keeping a relatively injury-free squad together. They both have similar records in their past five league games, winning three, drawing once and losing one - but it was the consecutive losses to Everton and Manchester City back in December which really dented Arsenal’s title chances. Diego Costa is their top scorer with 15 goals in the Premier League so far. BEST OPTA MATCH FACTS Arsenal have not done the double over Chelsea in the same season since 2003/04 - the season in which they last won the Premier League. Arsene Wenger has lost his last four league games at Stamford Bridge. The only away ground where he's lost more in succession is Old Trafford (2009-2013). The Gunners have had three players sent off in their last three Premier League games at Stamford Bridge (Gabriel, Santi Cazorla and Kieran Gibbs). Diego Costa has scored in two of his four league games against Arsenal and has been booked in the other two. Arsenal scored more goals in the first half against Chelsea in their last Premier League meeting than they had in their previous nine clashes with the Blues. Arsenal have lost as many of their last eight Premier League games as they did in their previous 30 in the competition (3). TV COVERAGE & KICK- OFF TIME Kick off is at 12:30pm on Saturday 4th February and the match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports 1.

WHY GIROUD IS USED AS SUPER SUB AND A FORWARDER FOR ARSENAL

Arsene Wenger has several big decisions to make ahead of the game against Chelsea - but which forward should play at No.9? COMMENT Arsene Wenger took the surprise decision to start Alexis Sanchez in a central attacking role at the start of the season after Olivier Giroud was given an extended break following his Euro 2016 excursions. For many, it was a change that would never work. Alexis’ short stature and supposed inability to play with his back to goal meant he surely couldn’t flourish as a target man. However, those criticisms were quickly put to bed as the Chilean has gone on to score 15 goals and provide seven assists so far this season – more than anyone else when combined together in Europe’s big five leagues. Diego Costa hammers China rumours “Sanchez was happy out wide because in his head he was a wide player. Today it would be more difficult for him to do that maybe, but when I play him there I must say honestly it it is not a problem. He accepts it very well,” said Wenger. “He has developed very well as a centre forward because I think he has found a good mixture between coming off and going in behind, and he has more freedom as well and he takes advantage of his short technique in the middle much more.” Alexis’ impressive numbers pay testament to Wenger’s trial and error method of management that saw him persevere with Sanchez up front even when it wasn’t working. An example of that could be seen when Arsenal played champions Leicester at the King Power Stadium in August. Alexis started through the middle in an exciting looking Gunners line-up which featured the likes of Santi Cazorla and Granit Xhaka. However, Alexis was forced to spend much of the match dropping back to collect the ball – with swathes of the game being played in midfield. Wenger’s persistence eventually paid off and we’ve seen this season what he can do when he’s afforded a free role in the traditional No.9 position. Alexis' unique qualities enable him to play on the shoulder of defenders while he can also drop short to collect the ball and play one-twos with team- mates in close proximity to him. He is also an expert at holding up the ball due to his brute strength. “The solution of Alexis up front has worked well and I have two options at the moment,” said Wenger. “Olivier Giroud is in both options because Alexis can play on the flank. Olivier can only play through the middle, so I can sometimes marry the two together.” Wenger: I tried to sign Kante... twice! Indeed, when Arsenal fans are asked who they want to see in the side, Sanchez is regularly the first name coming out of their mouths. But for all the success and entertainment the Chilean brings through the middle, it must be acknowledged that Giroud has responded brilliantly to those who claimed he would struggle to get back into the Arsenal team this season. Ten goals and four assists in 14 games this campaign is a magnificent return for a player who has again been forced to prove himself as a substitute. He was named Arsenal’s Player of the Month in January after four goals and two assists in six games - including crucial strikes against Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and in the FA Cup match at Preston North End. Opta’s data science team give insight into Giroud’s deadliness in front of goal by demonstrating that he has taken shots from much better locations than Sanchez this season (see graphics below). Opta's Expected Goals (xG) model measures how likely a particular shot is to be scored. It's based on distance to the goal, angle to the goal, assist type, whether or not it was headed and a variety of other factors. This assigns an xG value between 0 and 1 that reflects how likely the shot is to be scored. So, for example, 0.3 xG means a shot will typically be scored 30% of the time. Giroud has a higher xG rate per shot than Alexis and his xG value per 90 minutes is also slightly higher - 0.47 xG/90 min for Giroud and 0.42 xG/90 for Alexis. It is worth noting that attacking players who regularly come on as substitutes tend to have slightly higher xG numbers than forwards who start matches. This is due to substitutes having extra energy and playing against defenders who are less fresh than them. It is also because a substitute striker is more likely to be introduced when his team needs a goal – thus meaning his team will take more risks in pushing for a goal. Is there a better CB than David Luiz? These Opta statistics provide great evidence as to why Wenger has used Giroud perfectly this season. Ultimately, he has contributed to the team when opposition defenders are more tired and is more useful as an impact substitute rather than a starting striker. When Arsenal face Chelsea on Saturday at Stamford Bridge, a decision will be made on whether Giroud or Alexis will start in the No.9 role. All the evidence suggests the Frenchman may be better suited emerging from the bench during the second half.

HAZARD: CONTE PREPARES US THAN MOURINHO

Chelsea attacker Eden Hazard believes that current manager Antonio Conte prepares the players better tactically than Jose Mourinho did. Conte has been heaped with praise since changing the Blues’ formation to a 3-4-3 in September, which resulted in a record-equaling 13-game winning streak. The west London outfit now lead the Premier League pack by a nine-point margin, and Hazard has pointed to Conte’s attention to detail in the tactical preparations as an improvement over former boss Mourinho. Hazard told Sky Sports: “Tactical training. We do more with Conte. We know exactly what to do on the pitch, where I have to go, the defenders [know] where they have to go. “With Mourinho it was just he put the system [in place], but we didn’t work a lot [on it]. We know what to do because we play football, but maybe the automatism was a little bit different. “With Mourinho in the first season, when we won the title, [Nemanja] Matic was behind me,” he added. “Sometimes I stayed in front and Matic did the job. With Conte it’s different — I close more inside because [Marcus] Alonso is there. I just need to be ready to counterattack when we get the ball.”

ANTONIO CONTE: TITLE RACE IS STILL FAR FROM OVER

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte insists the Premier League title race is far from over and has urged his players to pay attention in every game until the end of the season. The Blues are currently nine points clear at the top of the table and host Arsenal, who are joint second, in a London derby on Saturday. With only 15 games remaining many believe the title race is over but Conte, who won three league titles with Juventus in Italy, is having none of it. ALSO READ: Toure insists City will keep chasing Chelsea Conte told reporters on Friday: “Anything can happen. It’s important to keep the antenna very high. If someone thinks that the league is finished, I’m not so sure. “I want to have this tension, this right tension. In the past I fight to win the title and I know we must pay great attention. “There are 15 games to play and there are a lot of great teams behind us.”

I DID'NT GO TO CHINI FOR MONEY-IGHALO

Odion Ighalo is not a whiner. If anything, his equanimity in the face of extreme adversity is almost legendary, which is why he caught Kwesé Sports when he broke from his usual persona during this exclusive interview. When he was made the scapegoat for the Nigeria under-20 team’s failure in Egypt in 2009, even though it was not his fault, Ighalo accepted it with resignation and moved on to carry on with his career in Europe. It is the same way he has taken criticism from Nigeria fans who feel he has not scored enough goals for the Super Eagles. Of course, part of what makes Ighalo such a likeable character is how far he goes out of his way not to rock the boat, even at his own discomfort. Which is why it was a bit of a shock to hear the barely- disguised pain and anger in his voice even over the ether of a bad telephone connection from Gabon. “I thank God for everything because it’s been good for me. But now I have to leave the Pozzo family after the years I’ve been with them before I start doing something crazy.” Something crazy? That sounded like an error, so the “What did you say again?” from this end was not to blame any garbled lines, but just to be sure this was exactly what Ighalo meant to say. “Yeah, I told them I wanted to go because I wanted more games. If I’m not going to play here, I don’t want to sit on the bench, I want to be where I will be playing matches every week, otherwise, I might do something crazy.” Okay, that was no mistake, so after the confirmation, the natural question was why. That was when it emerged that China was a forced move. Ighalo did not want to move for money. Watford made him. “I had other options in England but the team wanted more money and financially for me it’s good so I thank God,” the striker told Kwesé Sports. ALSO READ: Ighalo seals China move “I would have preferred to stay in England because I want to play more in the Premier League but sometimes you take some decisions based on what’s on ground. “I’m not saying I don’t like money but I wanted to play more in England, but Watford’s asking price was too much for West Brom. “Even Crystal Palace came in at the last minute and they wanted me so I tried to stall but the club wanted more and they could not match what the Chinese people were offering. Their 13 million was smaller than the 20 million from the Chinese people.” For a man who will be making something rumoured to be north of £150 000 a week, surely there shouldn’t be that much to complain about? Anyone who thinks that about Ighalo doesn’t know the Nigerian very much “I’m not crazy about the money. If I wanted money, I could have gone three seasons ago when the money was triple what they’re offering me now. All I wanted was to go somewhere where I would play every week.” His uncharacteristic outburst over, Ighalo settles down to talk about his immediate future. “I’m going there now, it’s a different challenge. Maybe that is what I need, a different environment, a different challenge to return to my best form. “I would say it’s great to be going to China. Mikel, the national team captain is there and the level of the league is good and I can concentrate on playing football.” Changchun Yatai is not one of the major players in the newly booming Chinese Super League, so why them. Their approach, Ighalo says, impressed him. “They told me the club is not a big club like the other ones. It’s in a small, lovely city and it’s a good pace to stay. But they know what they want and I was the one they wanted so they came specifically for me. And it feels good to know when you’re wanted. Then you can give your best.” Many have said Ighalo works best in a strike partnership but the forward dismisses that, saying he can hold his own in any tactical formation “I’m a professional. It doesn’t matter if I play as a lone striker or if I play with another striker. I just do what I need to do. And that’s what I’m going to do for my new club. On Thursday, his wife posted a picture on Instagram of the family seemingly on their way out of England, thanking the Pozzo family for all the years together, and looking forward to a fresh challenge. With this out of his mind, the goals should start flowing again. For Ighalo and hopefully, for Nigeria.

AGUERO DENIES DRUG ACCUSATION AGAINST FAMILY

Reports that marijuana and firearms were found in his grandmother's house led the striker to issue a full denial of the story on Thursday Sergio Aguero has emphatically denied reports that a member of his family was held in connection with a drugs raid carried out in his native Argentina. The Buenos Aires Police carried out an operation in the Eucaliptos neighbourhood of Quilmes, on the outskirts of the nation's capital and Aguero's first home. Fabregas: Arsenal gave me everything The home of Aguero's paternal grandmother was allegedly the focus of the raid, ordered in connection with an investigation into the sale of drugs and stolen goods and which ended with the arrest of another woman, purportedly a relative of the Manchester City player, as well as the seizing of 200 grams of marijuana and several firearms.
