The Croatia international midfielder
played the full 90 minutes as Madrid
defeated Real Betis 2-1 to move two
points clear of Barcelona at the top of
the table in Spain.
The 31-year-old reached the 200-
match milestone in his fifth season at
the Santiago Bernabeu, having joined
from Tottenham for an estimated £30
million in August 2012.

The midfielder has gone on to win
two Champions League titles, while
he has also tasted success in the Club

A league title in Spain has proved
elusive for Modric, however, with
Madrid having last won the league
title back in the 2011-12 campaign.
Zinedine Zidane's side will be
confident of breaking that five-year
duck this season however, with
Madrid having a game in hand over
their rivals with 12 matches in total
left to play.
Speaking to the club's official website
after being presented with his
commemorative '200' shirt, Modric
said: "I'm very happy and proud to be

MOURINHO MUST LEARN POBGA'S LESSON

The Chelsea boss managed the
world's most expensive player
while at Juventus, so  we take
a look at how he got the most
out of the French midfielder

Antonio Conte's management of Paul
Pogba whilst at Juventus offers Jose
Mourinho an insight into how to get
the best out of his £89 million
signing, having watched the
Frenchman struggle to live up to his
record-breaking price tag at
Manchester United.
Don't compare Kante with Pogba,
says Conte
Pogba flourished under the tutelage
of Conte in Turin but has so far only
shown glimpses of what he is capable
of in the Premier League.
Despite his patchy return to
Manchester, Pogba has been ever-
present in the United line-up. He has,
however, had to play a little deeper
than he would have liked under
Mourinho, who arrived at Old Trafford
to find a wealth of attacking
midfielders at the club but far less
competition in the deeper roles.
Pogba has himself revealed his
preference for a more advanced
position in midfield, specifically
highlighting the left side in a three-
man unit in the middle of the park,
though is willing to sacrifice this spot
for the sake of his team-mates.
"I would say midfielder on the left. If
you play a three I can play on the
right of left, but I feel more
comfortable to play on my
left," Pogba told Sky Sports when
asked what his best position is. "I can
do it [holding midfielder], but I feel
more comfortable a bit higher."
Mourinho has had trouble getting the
best out of Pogba so far, as he lacks
energy and power in midfield to
compliment his genius. Pogba is often
played in a central midfield role in a
4-2-3-1 formation, where he is asked
to play with more defensive
responsibility than he would ideally
like, while also being the player who
starts off the attacks from deep
positions.
PLAY
Pogba does sometimes get to play at
the top of the midfield three, though,
which he is more suited to, though his
placement there is at the expense of
one of many attacking team-mates,
such as Juan Mata, Henrikh
Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial, Marcus
Rashford, Wayne Rooney or Marouane
Fellaini.
Juventus, under Conte, were playing
3-5-2 in Pogba's final year at the club
and he was employed on the left-
hand-side of a midfield three. Conte's
wing-backs were able to provide cover
for Pogba, who was able to focus on
making intelligent runs and being a
goal threat in Serie A.
He also had Andrea Pirlo alongside
him, who would sit the deepest and
take on the transition phase, quickly
moving the ball from defence to
attack.
Pogba's increased responsibility,
coupled with his price tag and the
difficulty of the Premier League, are
the reasons why he hasn't quite
looked a world-beater just yet.
The 23-year-old got used to winning
silverware and developed his game
under Conte at Juventus, claiming four
back-to-back league titles at the club,
as well as two Coppa Italia trophies.
Pogba was also in the side led by
Conte's successor Massimiliano
Allegri who competed in the
2015 Champions League final, before
eventually losing the game 3-1 to
Barcelona.
Pogba is now preparing for another
reunion with his former mentor Conte
as Manchester United travel to
Stamford Bridge on Monday evening,
having suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat in
the earlier league meeting. That loss
was another game in which Pogba was
picked out as performing poorly,
while his countryman, N'Golo Kante,
took the plaudits.
However, he has already tasted
success in a red shirt after claiming an
EFL Cup trophy, while United remain
in contention to lift the FA Cup and
Europa League. The Red Devils will
need to improve upon their sixth-
place position in the Premier League
table in the coming weeks, however,
and Pogba will be key to their
success.
Conte: I want to be like Mourinho
The Frenchman will certainly be
pivotal to United for many years to
come, but Mourinho may have to
spend yet more money to get the
best out of the world's most
expensive player, as he re-thinks his
long-term position in the starting XI.
To do so, he could well look for a
Arturo Vidal and Pirlo-type
combination in the transfer market, or
even a younger Michael Carrick and a
Kante type of player to get more out
of his £89m man.

THERE IS NO FUTURE FOR BIAFRA - FRANCE

The push for Biafra Republic will meet with very stiff opposition from the international circuit - France has said it sees no future for the Biafra movement - The French government says it is working with Nigeria and supporting it as a country - Denys Gauer says France is working with the country in its fight against insurgency France Ambassador to Nigeria, Denys Gauer has said that there is no future for the achievement of Biafra. He said France was working with Nigeria and supporting it as a country. He said: “We are working with Nigeria and we are supporting it as the only country. “This is absolutely clear and I don’t think there is any kind of future for Biafra. They are part of Nigeria and Nigeria has to remain as the only country.” According to Gauer, France was working with the country in its fight against insurgency, adding that the fight against insurgency had brought Nigeria and France together, more than before. “I can confirm to you that we are now very close allies to the Nigerian Armed Forces in the fight against Boko Haram. “We have no restrictions on that, we can sell any kind of equipment to the Nigerian government without any restrictions”, he added. Reacting to Buratai’s comment, the Uchenna Madu led group maintained that such statement credited to the Army chief cannot stop its seccession drive. In a statement signed by its National Secretary, Comrade Ibem Ugwuoke Ibem, MASSOB likened Buratai’s comments to what the leaders of India said before tbe country broke up leading to the creation of Pakistan. The separatist group urged “Hausa – Fulani apologists like Buratai” to refrain from speaking against the emergence of Biafra.

OPINION: BUHARI SHOULD RESIGN NOT REST

Editor’s note: President Muhammadu
Buhari returned to Nigeria on Friday,
March 10 after spending 51 days in
London on an extended medical
vacation.
In this opinion by Umar Sa’ad Hassan,
he argues that President Buhari would
be better off resigning and allowing
Professor Yemi Osinbajo continue with
the leadership of the county.
The return of President Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari
announced soon after returning from
a medical leave lasting a month and
19 days that Acting President Yemi
Osinbajo was going to continue in
that capacity as he still needed to
‘rest’. I totally understand the need
for that as a lot of us already knew
he was battling something serious for
the Presidency to keep the nature of
his ailment under wraps. If it were a
medical condition not worth losing
any sleep over, I trust Femi Adesina
to have disclosed it to us in a bid to
allay fears, dispel mischief and
assure us we weren’t sold damaged
goods. But what we kept getting
instead were updates on test results
and who was visiting. Mr Lai
Mohammed as the publicity
secretary of the Action Congress in
2009 demanded that the then
Minister of Information updated
Nigerians daily on the state of
President Yar’Adua’s health. It is
ironic that in consonance with the
hypocrisy we have now grown
accustomed to, he didn’t do so when
Buhari was away.
READ ALSO: Jubilation in Buhari's
hometown, Daura, after his return
Soon after the President arrived 10
hours late to an APC Presidential
campaign rally in Delta state, reports
surfaced complete with a medical
report on how the President was
been treated for acute prostrate
gland cancer at the Ahmadu Bello
University Teaching Hospital, Zaria in
Kaduna state. Nobody took them
serious and we all waved them off as
one of the PDP’s numerous antics at
fighting off its most potent opposition
ever. It felt a desperate move at a
most desperate time but in the
present circumstance, those reports
deserve a lot more attention than
they got then. Governor Ayo Fayose
and others that warned us to choose
life over death and not vote a man
that could die in office now seem
special recipients of messages from
above.

What we have to work with suggests
we have a 74-year-old President who
suffers from an ailment grave
enough for his doctors to refuse to
release him before his test results
are out and also grave enough to be
kept secret from everyone.
Is Buhari still the same person we
think he is?
If Buhari is half the man almost
everyone thought he was, he would
have tendered his resignation and
gone on to cater full time to his
health. If not for anything but for his
love for this great nation. The Buhari
sold to Nigerians was one who
believed we deserved the best from
our leaders and one who was modest,
contented and didn’t deem the
Presidency a do-or-die affair.
A lot of those who clapped back at
Governor Fayose back then actually
vouched for his integrity by claiming
the Buhari they knew wouldn’t spend
an extra day in office if his age or
health would constitute a hindrance
to the effective discharge of his
duties. That doesn’t seem to be the
case.
In the end he is no different from the
other politicians out there who would
cling onto power at all costs. He is no
more honourable than your average
Nigerian politician who would rather
die on the sick bed in his office than
relinquish power. I saw a recent
photo of the ex-Taraba state
governor on a wheel chair and I
wondered if Tarabans were actually
waiting for the man to get well and
resume in office.
Buhari’s man of integrity toga only
makes it difficult to rationalize his
reluctance to step down. He cannot
claim to worry about what would
become the fate of Nigerians if he
does so as the acting President has
proved more than equal to the task
with the yeoman’s job he has done so
far. Virtually every poll I saw online
ended with the majority wanting
Osinbajo to continue in a substantive
capacity. The Ag. President’s surprise
visit to the Murtala Mohammed
International airport Lagos to inspect
facilities gave a lot of us an insight
into what it felt like to have a vibrant
leader on the good side of age.
And talking about age, the President
himself has admitted it would limit
his capabilities in honouring his bond
with the people. Add that to his
health state and you have a man who
is guaranteed to serve us at a
minimal capacity. This ought to have
been the clincher if indeed he has sat
down to consider towing the path of
honour.

The theory that the profligacy of the
PDP is responsible for all of our
current problems has been
disproved by none other than his
Vice-President who needed just the
amount of time the President was
away to pay strategic visits to the
Niger-Delta to meet the right people
and pull the right strings in a more
diplomatic approach a lot of us
feared a ‘hard man’ like PMB wasn’t
capable of adopting to ensure none of
our oil installations were bombed
ever since. He pursued rigorous
enforcement of the CBN policy on
foreign exchange and thanks to that
its A lot of us remember even
without this new policy, he was able
to help the naira claw back 14 points
during President Buhari’s first
medical leave.
The President’s performance quite
sincerely has been below par and it
would be better to leave and have
Nigerians attribute it to whatever
reason his honourable act propels
them towards, most likely illness than
to give them less than they deserve.

OVER 100K WANT BARCA VS PSG REPLAY

A fan has cited referee Deniz
Aytekin's performance in the
encounter as a good enough
reason to have the remarkable
comeback wiped from the record

A petition calling for Barcelona's 6-1
win over Paris Saint-Germain in the
Champions League to be replayed has
received the support of over 100,000
signatures.
Neymar to miss Deportivo clash
Barca appeared to be on their way out
of the competition after they lost 4-0
to the Ligue 1 side in the first-leg of
their second round tie. However, Luis
Enrique's men became the first team
to overcome a first-leg deficit of that
magnitude when they demolished
PSG at Camp Nou.
Referee Deniz Aytekin was heavily
criticised for his performance in the
game, giving the home side two
penalties, and reports circulated that
he could be demoted as a result .
While PSG fans felt aggrieved at some
of his decisions, one man, Luis
Melendo Olmedo, wants the thriller at
Camp Nou to be repeated.
The request was set up on
Change.org , which allows people to
post various petitions on issues such
as women's rights, immigration, war
and discrimination.
Luis Enrique: We've won nothing yet

According to Olmedo, the thrilling
encounter must be revisited because
of "incidents that seriously
damaged PSG. As a result of the
German referee Deniz Aytekin, who
gave Barcelona an advantage with his
refereeing decisions."
The target number of signatures for
Olmedo's petition is 150,000 and he
has a huge amount of support - flying
well past the halfway mark.

GUARDIOLA'S GOING ALL OUT OF CUP VICTORY

The Catalan picked something
close to his strongest line-up in
the FA Cup and will do so again
in Monaco as he looks to end his
first season in style
It seemed for a moment that Pep
Guardiola was weighing up a sarcastic
response when asked about the
importance of the next seven days to
Manchester City’s season.
It is the kind of question which he has
dismissed in recent weeks, perhaps
because he sees it as an attempt to
overplay the situation, or to put
pressure on his players.
The stars who could break Pogba's
record
Instead, after a second’s hesitation as
the journalists at his Friday press
conference wondered what was about
to come, he wholeheartedly agreed.
“Definitely,” he said. “It is an
important week. We have done a
good job especially in two
competitions, though we are doing
quite well in the Premier League as
well, but of course this week is so, so
important.”
Middlesbrough on Saturday lunchtime,
an opportunity to reach a Wembley FA
Cup semi-final, came ahead of the
Champions League trip to Monaco on
Wednesday and a home Premier
League clash with Liverpool next
Sunday.
“These three games will decide what's
going to happen in the next two
months - definitely," Guardiola
concurred.
The former Barcelona boss had aimed
to give his side a boost ahead of that
run by shuffling his pack a little - and,
despite the furore afterwards, it did a
little - by resting Raheem Sterling and
David Silva for the midweek game
against Stoke City. A goalless draw
suggests the rotation backfired but
there are, at least, two cup
competitions up for grabs.
Milan fury only adds to Juve-refs
controversy
At the Riverside on Saturday morning,
Guardiola’s intentions were made
clear. With City one win from
Wembley, the Catalan went with
something like his strongest side.
Silva and Kevin De Bruyne teamed up
in the middle again, while Sterling
returned to the side to form a
fearsome front three with Leroy Sane
and Sergio Aguero.
Claudio Bravo was given a go in goal
while Aleksandar Kolarov and
Fernandinho were left on the bench -
perhaps with one eye on Monaco -
but Guardiola went with a stronger
side than most expected, and perhaps
many other managers would in his
position.
Vindication arrived after just three
minutes when David Silva finished off
a fine team move. Boro, to their
credit, kept going and although their
threat was fairly rudimentary, coming
via the pace of Adama Traore and
aerial threat at set-pieces, they did
worry City at times before the break.
After it, though, it was all City. Brad
Guzan kept them at bay on several
occasions but could do nothing when
Sane was released down the left and
crossed for Aguero, who composed
himself and fired in.
There was a gulf in class, and it was
because Guardiola went strong with
his line-up. “The cup is a final and at
the end you are not playing for one
point or three points,” he said on
Friday. “You have to win. It doesn't
matter.”
He is not the only manager to call
regular matches ‘finals’ but he
certainly does it a lot - it is no
coincidence that has now reached a
semi-final in all eight seasons of his
coaching career to date - and he was
certain he wasn’t going to lose this
game, even if there is the unavoidable
knock-on of tiredness further down
the line.
If his starting line-up was a statement
of intent regarding, his substitutions
were a statement of indifference.
When Nolito replaced Sane
immediately after City went 2-0 up
here, and with over 20 minutes to go,
it appeared Guardiola’s other key men
would start to come o
Howeever, with Yaya Toure spared
only the final 10 minutes and Aguero
the three minutes of injury time, it
does not appear that Guardiola is too
concerned about the possibility of
fatigue.
It was Monaco who faded late on in
the first leg and City might need them
to again on Wednesday, if the Blues’
two-away-goal aggregate lead is
chipped into by the vibrant Ligue 1
leaders. Still, with an FA Cup semi
now safely in the bag, that is for
Guardiola to work out.
And although league title may be
gone, the top four places are still up
for grabs and with Arsenal and
Chelsea waiting after the Liverpool
game, and United to visit the Etihad
sometime at the end of April, the
fixtures might start to pile up - at the
time when cup competitions are back
on the cards.
Clearly, though, Guardiola is not
thinking overly worried about that.
“The schedule is the schedule” is
another one of his favourite phrases
and while it may pose a selection
headache or two down the line it is
hard to argue that any team would be
better off out of the cups come April,
May and June.
And it will be that message which City
fans carry with them back to
Manchester on Saturday afternoon.
City, tired as they may be, are looking
good.

MIKEL AND IDEYE PICKS 1ST CSL POINT

The Nigerians were on parade
from start to finish as Jaime
Pacheco’s men were unable to
break down the resolute hosts
without their guile
John Obi Mikel and Brown Ideye
were on parade as Tianjin Teda and
Jiangsu Suning played out a goalless
draw at Nanjing Olympic Sports
Centre on Friday.
The Chinese Super League encounter
was Ideye’s debut for the Tigers since
his move from Olympiacos, but he
was uninspiring as he fluffed several
scoring chances.
After their opening day defeat to
Shandong Luneng, Tianjin Teda came
with the ambition of picking their first
win of the season, but their dream
got shattered no thanks to harvest of
misses plus fine goalkeeping from
Sipeng Zhang.
Captain Mikel had a good outing –
though joined Ximing Pan, Dong Wang
and Jiakang Hui in the defence to
curtail Boyu Yang and Xiaotian Yang’s
attacking forays.
In the second half, Jiangsu controlled
proceedings, but looked short of
inspiration in the final third after
injured Song Wang was substituted
after 46 minutes.
The result means Teda boast of one
point from two games to place 11th
on the log. They host Chongqing Lifan
in their next outing on April 2.

GROUP CALLS FOR INVESTIGATIONS OVER BUHARI'S HEALTH STATUS

A group called the Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide has called on the National Assembly to set up a committee to investigate the health status of Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari.
President Buhari returned to Nigeria on Friday, March 10 after around 49 days of vacation in the United Kingdom.
The Punch reports that the body, a coalition of all indigenous youth groups and student groups in the South-west of Nigeria, said the committee to investigate the fitness level of the president should be made up of medical experts headed by Buhari’s own head doctor in libe with section 144 of the constitution.

The group said this at a press conference in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital on Friday, March 10 during the formal swearing in of the Oyo State Council Executive members.
Its national president Oladotun Hassan, said: “There are a lot of uncertainties surrounding the state of health of President Buhari and many Nigerians, particularly the over 70 per cent of the Yoruba people, who voted him into office, are even being denied information about the President’s state of health.
“As much as we wish him speedy recovery and good health to continue the good work he has started in the country, we want to say that the President must ensure he takes as much rest as he needs if he finds himself still unhealthy enough for the rigours of the office.
“The health of the President is more important to the nation. As such, we call on the National Assembly to set up a committee or panel to investigate the fitness and health status of the President, so that Nigerians will know the level of support to offer him.”

BUHARI MISSES FIRST JUMAT SERVICE

Emerging reports claim that
President Muhammadu Buhari
could not make it to the first Jumat
service which is holding after his
return from a prolonged vacation
in the United Kingdom.
The Sun reports that Buhari was

He had said it was to spare Abuja
residents the difficulty they always
face as a result of roadblocks
associated with presidential
movements.
Buhari had retired to his official
residence after meeting some
government officials including
ministers and security heads at the
First Lady Conference Hall.
Those that observed the Jumaat
service in the Presidential Villa were,
the Minister of Information and
Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; the
Chief of Staff to the President, Abba
Kyari, his ADC, Chief Security Officer,
and other presidential aides who are
Muslims.
Although no reason was given for his
absence at the service, it is believed
that he should be taking his rest
after six-hour flight from London.
Buhari had said earlier today that he
is a little bit tired even as he gave
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo the go
ahead to continue as acting
president, The Sun reports.
According to the report, Buhari made
the remark while addressing

ANTI TRUMP FRANK-WALTER STEINMEIER BECOMES GERMANY PRESIDENT

A German parliamentary assembly has elected Frank-Walter Steinmeier to become the country’s next president by an overwhelming majority - Mr Steinmeier, Germany’s former foreign minister, strongly criticised Donald Trump during the US election campaign - He was elected with 931 of 1,260 votes A German parliamentary assembly has elected Frank-Walter Steinmeier to become the country’s next president by an overwhelming majority. READ ALSO: Trouble looms for Donald Trump, as more than 650,000 people have joined a campaign to Impeach the US President When asked in August about the rise of right-wing populism in Germany and elsewhere, Mr Steinmeier criticised those who “make politics with fear”. The daily Berliner Morgenpost billed Mr Steinmeier as “the anti-Trump president”. He was elected with 931 of 1,260 votes. Mr Steinmeier, a Social Democrat, had the support of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s “grand coalition” of centre- right and centre-left parties. He has long been one of Germany’s most popular politicians. Under Ms Merkel, he served twice as foreign minister – from 2005 to 2009 and again from 2013 until this year, with a stint as opposition leader in between. He has also won respect for his persistence in trying to resolve the long-running crisis in Ukraine. He will succeed Joachim Gauck, a 77- year-old former pastor and East German pro-democracy activist. He did not seek a second five-year term because of his age. His election is likely to be one of the last moments of coalition unity ahead of a parliamentary election in September in which Ms Merkel is seeking a fourth term. Both sides hope to end the “grand coalition”

FORMER GOVERNOR CHIEF IBORI EXPLAINS HIS EXPERIENCE AT A LONDON PRISON

After seven years of serving jail term in London prison, Ibori has spoken on his prison experience - He says what pained him most was not actually his prison service but his people whom he left behind - He, however, said he was not guilty of the offences leveled against him but he accepted it as a way to escape the plot of his enemies Former governor of Delta state, Chief James Ibori on Sunday, February 12, 2017 said he never once doubted his prospect of returning to Nigeria and reuniting with his friends, political associates and kinsmen in Oghara, Ethiope west local government area of the state. Ibori also dismissed insinuations that he was guilty of the offences to which he admitted in 2012, disclosing that at the point of his trial, his guilty plea was the only leeway with which he could escape the malevolent plot of his enemies under the guise of anti- corruption crusade. James Onanefe Ibori The former governor spoke in Oghara during a thanksgiving service organized by the leadership of Oghara community and held at the First Baptist Church, Ogharefe. The event was widely attended by thousands of supporters, including Ibori's elder cousin and successor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan; Ibori's deputy, Chief Benjamin Elue, former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Chief Steve Oru, Managing Director of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief Williams Makinde, traditional rulers, serving and former commissioners, political stalwarts, captains of industries and artisans across the state. READ ALSO: See faces at James Ibori's thanksgiving service in Oghara Delta state Ibori who spoke in English and Urhobo languages revealed that the reality of his seven years absence from the country was not as painful as the suffering and pains which his people were subjected to within the period of his absence. His words: "My entire life is a testimony; I have said it over and again that my life was fashioned by God, directed by God, seen, acknowledged and blessed by God. I have always believed that since I was born, I’m living in accordance with destiny. "When the whole commotion started, what was most painful to me was the pains and sufferings that my people were going through. It had nothing to do with me as a person because for some reasons, I drew my strength from God and, somehow, I knew God will stand by me. "I knew that one day, this day of celebration will come. I am indeed very pleased that I can now stand before you and look at your faces, especially the faces of those I have missed and those who suffered the pains of my absence. "When I reflect on the past, it gives me joy that all your prayers have been answered by God; all your support and solidarity with me all through this period are untellable. Ibori while in London prison "The only testimony I have is the fact that I am alive, well and in your midst. I never had any doubt whatsoever in mind that I will get back home. ” On his guilty plea about seven years ago, Ibori maintained that his analysis of the situation showed that his life was at stake and the enemies were bent on taking him from his people, hence he accepted his alleged offences as a "pragmatic decision" to thwart the plans of his foes. He narrated how he had pre- informed Uduaghan of his intention of going for the guilty plea which, he said, was "the shortest route back to his people ", insisting that he was not guilty as alleged. Ibori, who was in a very high spirit, led the congregation in songs of victory just as special prayers were offered for him and his family members, Oghara community, Ethiope west, Delta state and Nigeria. Earlier in a homily titled: "Knowing the Gift of God", the South-South Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Goddowell Awomakpa, said Ibori served as a bridge that united the church with the government of the state, urging politicians to be more concerned with the welfare of the masses than their personal gratification. Awomakpa also enjoined political leaders to shun hatred for one another, charging them to embrace humility and respect for the electorate during and after their tenure in offices. Meanwhile, prominent kinsmen of Ibori have continued to eulogize the former governor, describing him as people oriented and generally acceptable to Nigerians. In an interaction with newsmen, Ighomena attributed the jubilations that greeted Ibori's return to his continuous struggle for the emancipation of the Niger Delta region, noting that Ibori never fought a personal cause but advanced the true yearnings of Nigerians. On his part, a former Commissioner representing Ethiope west, Sapele and Okpe local government areas on the board of DESOPADEC, Chief Henry Ofa, urged everyone "to accord Chief Ibori the greatest respect that he deserves and tell others to do same", adding: "We must heed his fatherly advice and show him all the needed love.” "As we all rise in unity to reaffirm our undying loyalty to this great leader, we must understand that each of us has a stake in the issue at hand; we have a role to play and we have an all important task to perform. Ibori during the celebration service in church on Sunday "Now, more than ever, has the rolling ball been placed on our courts; it is either we score the goal and continue in our unabating joy or stand the risk of missing the reward forever. A fact worth knowing is that history beckons on you .” On her part, a lecturer at the Delta State University, Abraka, Dr. (Mrs) Elizabeth Ogini observed that the time for a genuine reconciliation between Ibori and all aggrieved interests has come, noting that there is no gain in bickering. Osinbajo, Obasanjo to attend 2017 Murtala Muhammed Foundation lecture Osinbajo is the special guest of honour while Obasanjo, who is the chairman of the board of trustees of the Murtala Muhammed Foundation (MMF), is expected to chair the event. The keynote address of the event will be delivered by Governor Kashim Shettima, governor of Borno state, with the theme “Managing the Boko Haram Crisis in Borno state; Experiences and lessons for a multi-party, multi-ethnic and multi-religious Nigeria". In a statement sent to NAIJ.com by the chief executive officer of the MMF, Mrs Aisha Oyebode, she noted that the lecture “celebrates and sustains the good governance initiatives of our fallen hero whose inclination for humanitarian ideals we continue to uphold.” According to Oyebode, this year’s lecture will focus on humanitarian crisis and response in a pluralistic society and the role of leadership in the face of a multi-ethnic population. “Nigeria is contending with tensions arising from the activities of micro- nationalistic agitators, threatening to compound existing security challenges occasioned by the Boko Haram insurgency that has caused fatalities in excesses of 14,000 people and displaced over 1 million people. More worrisome are the implications these issues have on an already fragile security environment in the region, characterized by unmitigated small arms proliferation, weak state and security institutions in the component countries and a large number of out of school children and unemployed youth with dire economic prospects who are vulnerable targets for radicalization,” she said. The MMF is an organization founded on the ideals of Nigeria’s former military president, Late General Murtala Muhammed. The foundation has overtime led efforts to develop innovative approaches to dealing with the challenges facing the country. He said their actions portrayed the Nigeria Police Force in good light as they exhibited professionalism, fearlessness and incorruptibility in the conduct of their assignment. He said that the chairman of the commission, Mike Okiro, was poised to enthrone honesty, responsibility and fear of God in the Nigeria Police Force. Mr Okiro noted that the special promotions were meant to spark off a new wave of integrity in the conduct of police officers. “The promotion is another way of motivating the honest and disciplined officers and a wake-up call to the few disgruntled elements still in service,” he said. He warned that officers who failed to embrace the new disposition of the commission, would be shown the way out of the force. Ani said that the special promotions take immediate effect.

GOVERNOR OKOWA ASKS IBORI TO FORGET RETURN TO POLITICS

Governor Okowa asks Ibori to forget return to politics - Chief James Ibori, former governor of Delta state, returned to Nigeria after spending years in a UK prison - Apart from being celebrated by his people in Oghara, there are beliefs that the former governor would soon defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has said Chief James Ibori should be more concerned with his family now that he has returned from prison rather than politics. Governor Okowa says Ibori should concentrate on his family instead of politics Okowa stated this in reaction to claims that the former governor of Delta state on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and acclaimed political godfather was planning to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ibori returned from the UK recently after serving a concurrent 13-year jail term for money laundering and was reportedly visited by some top politicians in the state including Okowa. Meanwhile, the Centre for Anti- Corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL) has described the ‘euphoria’ that greeted Ibori’s return to Delta state as a show of shame that debases humanism. “It is sad and disheartening to see human beings so audaciously being ripped of their humanism; the very basis of their existence, out of the ‘inadvertent’ need to cope with the socio-economic and political reality of the society imposed by the incurably corrupt ruling class elements like Ibori. “It is like the hunted protecting the hunter; victims celebrating their victimizers out of total dislocation with the empirical reality of their social existence and proper introspection. “We are talking about an ex-convict that has through his nefarious and corrupt activities dragged the image of the country as a whole in the mud of global shame. Debo Adeniran of CACOL condemns the rousing welcome accorded Ibori in Oghara “Ibori, we believe, is one those who inspired the infamous statement of the former Prime Minister of the UK, David Cameron that described Nigeria as a country that is ‘fantastically’ corrupt. “CACOL think those that are openly celebrating the ex-convict are trying to turn Ibori to a ‘hero’, so he could go back to playing his so-called ‘Robinhood’ role while walking free and shoulders-high in spite of committing corruption crimes of incredible proportions. “‘Beneficiaries’ as the celebrators may be; they do not represent the rule of law, the will or opinion of Nigerians about the obligation and absolute necessity to prosecute Ibori and others like him for their corruption crimes with deserving punitive applied where culpability is established. READ ALSO: "Dear Ibori, we can’t thank God enough for bringing you back alive" “We also point out that the ‘welcome carnival’ is a manifestation of a tendency that can never spell any good for socio-cultural, economic and political development because the trend is predicated on corruption and abysmal disregard for core values and morals,” CACOL said in a statement made available to NAIJ.com.

MUST READ: YAR' ADUA IS SICK, IMPEACH HIM NOW- BUHARI SAYS IN 2010

On March 9, 2010, something happened which given the state of Nigeria right now, can best be described as the mother of all ironies. Late Yar'adua and Goodluck Jonathan The Nigerian president in that year was Umar Musa Yar'Adua and he had been sick and away from the country for a while. The then vice president, Goodluck Jonathan, was made the acting president and the entire country was confused about the exact state of Yar'Adua's health. Then an opposition leader, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), joined the growing number of Nigerians to call for the removal of President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua. God Loves You Discover God's Love and Forgiveness God Wants You to Know Him Ad READ ALSO: Buhari is not in the hospital - Presidency According to the This Day article dated March 9, 2010, President Buhari maintained that the only viable option out of the present political logjam in the country was for the Executive Council of the Federation (EXCOF) to declare the president incapacitated and have him impeached . Buhari, in 2010, said Nigeria should not have been in the situation it was in the first instance because the constitution had made it clear on how an ailing president could be succeeded. Insisting on Yar'Adua's impeachment, he said the refusal of the council to follow constitutional provisions with regards to the illness of the then president had thrown Nigeria into crisis and he argued that the 1999 Constitution was clear on the issue of succession when an incumbent president is incapacitated. Buhari, who is the president now, said all this when he received members of the National Unity Forum in Kaduna who paid him a solidarity visit. Goodluck Jonathan was not spared, as the former military ruler criticized what he described as "extra- constitutional measures", the measures applied by the National Assembly to empower Goodluck Jonathan as the acting president when the constitution already had a solution to the problem. READ ALSO: 6 things Osinbajo has done as acting president Below were his words from March 2010: "Political expediency won't remedy this kind of problem because if the Executive Council of the Federation had acted in accordance with the constitution, by invoking the necessary sections to declare the President incapacitated, we would not have found ourselves in this present situation. "As you can see, adopting extra- constitutional measures have not addressed the problem. If it had, we would not have been subjected to the raging debates and controversy going on. So, we must go back to the constitution. "The Executive Council of the Federation must do the right thing because once we start moving away from the constitution, then we are inviting anarchy.” Looking back at 2010, from 2017, it is indeed ironical that President Buhari is now receiving treatment in another country, and he has placed his vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, as the acting president?!

BELLO MASARI: HOW WE FRUSTRATED OBSANJO'S THIRD TERM AGENDA

Katsina State Governor, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, has revealed how he teamed up with former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, to truncate third term agenda of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2007. Masari, who was Speaker of the House of Representatives between 2003 and 2007, said when it became evident that Obasanjo was not ready to leave office, he had to join others to defend the overall interest of the country, rather than promoting a selfish agenda. Speaking with The Sun, the former Speaker said, “we started a journey from 2003 to 2007. Immediately after 2007 election, Ken Nnamani and myself, and some few others started meeting. PDP was so pervasive in the polity that it failed to reform. I know the role we played – not only about stopping the third term, but also to sustain the 2007 election, as bad as it was. “I think Senator Ken Nnamani and myself deserve some recognition, as we not only killed the third term, but also saved the 2007 election. An international election monitoring team led by a senior official from a super power nation invited us to a meeting, with Ken Nnamani, some senators, and myself and told us there was no election in 2007. “Indeed, the 2007 elections were flawed, and really there was no election. And I said, ‘yes there was no election.’ And they said, ‘why shouldn’t you move against the present government.’ They said we should use our chamber to make a declaration that there was no election. I said we would not do that because the constitution has not given us power to do that. “I told them that we had stopped third term and if we took that road, the President could simply declare a state of emergency. On the 29th of May 2007 our mandate, as legislature, would expire; the President would be the only one the constitution has given the right to remain in office to conduct a fresh election. I said we had exercised our own power to kill the third term, but if Nigerians could organise themselves, the whole nation can call on the National Assembly and give us extra constitutional powers, which I knew was impossible to do. “So, we really rejected that idea; even a motion was suggested that we should call for another election; but we said we would not do that, because we knew the consequences of condemning the election; it would throw the country into chaos. Those in government were not people who were friendly to us. But we made the sacrifice because of the nation. We knew that only God would protect us from them. We took that decision so that we didn’t throw the country into confusion. In fact, we even refused to table the matter at the House to debate it, whether there was an election or no election.” On the election, he said: “Clearly, there was no election. In 2007, there was no election. People were only brought into office by the former president. This is because elections were conducted on ballot papers that were not numbered. Yes, they were just papers, which I can print here.” COMMENT PLEASE

BUHARI'S GOVERNMENT WILL CRASH,IT GODLESS

A human rights group, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice, CHRSJ, has declared that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress government is godless and as a result, is now about to crash. The Executive Chairman of CHRSJ, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman, made the claim, calling on the president to “stop playing and challenging God.” Thousands of Nigerians took to the streets in parts of the country earlier in the week against the government’s harsh economic policies. According to Sulaiman, Buhari’s government was bound to fail in all areas just as it lacks the will to lead the people out of hardship. The group made the declaration as part of the protest march that happened in some cities of the country. It also noted that Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade was selective, against the principle of equity, accountability, transparency and justice, adding that the president had been protecting “fantastically corrupt set of people, like the Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF), Mr David Babachir Lawal, the Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Magu, among others, in his government.” The statement said the reason for protesting in the country was because Nigerians have been pushed to the wall. Sulaiman advised Nigerians to unite against putting the Buhari administration on its toes for the interest of the voiceless masses. He added, “Our duty is to liberate Nigeria from shackle of poverty, suffering, disease, squalor and undemocratic tendencies of Buhari’s government. “It is high time we all rose up to the challenges posed by this endless suffering under Muhamamdu Buhari, so that the labour of our heroes past shall not being in vain. “Our ‘siddon-look’ posture will destroy the country. Nigeria shall one day be free and that all evil men will perish because they are enemies of the masses due to their unconstitutional attitude to the fourth schedule of section (7) with section 14, 15,16,17,18 and 33 to 41 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. “It would amount to serious disservice to the nation and the entire people of Nigeria if General Muhammdu Buhari (rtd) as a former military dictator, cannot vacate our democratic space for genuine democrat.” COMMENT PLEASE
